Your New Favorite Multi-Faceted Chick, Tashiann Yasmine

Talks her accessory brand Girlstrike, her journey toward living freely and how she stays grounded

By Daija Green | Posted on December 10, 2021

Meet Tashiann Yasmine, multi-faceted chick, CEO of Girl Strike, stylist, and jewelry instructor. Living her life freely, creatively and in tune with her purpose, Tash talks to Trutuyou about the journey that has led her here. In her words, living true to yourself is “living out the part of you that God created you to be”, yet this is not always easy. It takes time. It takes you to partake on a journey full of highs, lows, and intentional transformation.

After hitting a dark place last year, Tash chose to redefine her story and transform her reality by commencing a new journey. As she rewrites her story, she candidly shares some of the life lessons she is learning about purpose, inner peace, self-love, and divine timing. Documenting her journey through her youtube channel, running her brand Girl Strike, and styling creatives such as entrepreneur Cleopatra Lee and artist Alia Kadir, Tash is on a strike to live out the part of her that God created her to be.

Who is Tashiann and what do you do?

Tash is a multi-faceted woman. She is a creative. Tash is just free, willing to be herself and create freely. Just fulfilling my purpose in everything that I do and embracing myself in my feminine energy.

What inspired you to create your brand?

I’ve always been an accessory girl. I thrift accessories all the time whether it be earrings, necklaces, or bags. I was always that girl. If you came to me for outfit advice I would always be like, are you going to wear earrings, a necklace, what do you want to do? Accessories are so important to me.

I first moved to New York in 2016 and I wanted to make extra money. One day I went to Topshop and saw that they were selling chokers for $15. I was like people are paying $15 for this?! So that ignited something in me to create because I could make money and create something valuable. Since then it’s just grown into me experimenting. This is just a way for me to be creative.

What inspired you to name your brand Girlstrike?

I’ve always been in tune with my purpose. When I was younger I thought my purpose was to impact young black women to really make them positive and love themselves. So with Girl Strike, I wanted to make sure that it embodied my purpose even if I was creating accessories, I still wanted it to matter. I still wanted whatever I did to make a difference somehow.

It only took me about a week or so to come up with the name. I was thinking one day and Girlstrike just came to me. As time went on Girlstrike kept popping in my head. So I decided to call it Girlstrike because it just embodies my vibe right now. I created it at a time where I wasn't really comfortable with myself and I felt like I had to put a mold over what being a woman meant. I had to put on a mold in order to be considered desirable. It started as the rebellion of me working on finding myself and becoming comfortable with being myself. Then it became my alter ego and then it became me. Girlstrike is evolving as I evolve. Girlstrike is my more confident self.

If you could describe the Girlstrike woman or man, who are they?

They’re just people who are free in themselves and they don't conform to whatever they think they need to be doing. They are just free. They don’t care about what people think, they wear what they want to wear, they are doing what they want to do. Being free and confident in that. Being okay with growing, consistently learning, and embracing all the better parts of them.

Talk a little bit about your youtube channel and how it came about?

My youtube channel started as a way to keep me accountable. The ending of last year was really rough for me I went through some things that really took me through a dark space. Coming out of it I knew that I had to make some changes. I didn’t want to just wallow in that darkness. I knew that I wanted to get myself out of it. I knew that I wanted to do better so I set this really big goal for myself and that goal was to make a million dollars.

I set that goal at the beginning of the year and it's almost December so the year is almost up but I'm still working on manifesting that. When I set that goal I knew that I would have to change my life and really change the person that I was in order to acquire that money but also be happy. You know sometimes people have that money but aren’t happy. They're running around like a chicken with their head cut off. I knew that I needed to make a change. I knew that I needed to be different.

So it really started off as an accountability partner. You know you aren't going to want to fuck up if people are watching you. As I’ve grown, I realize that this Youtube channel is also a way for me to fulfill my purpose because now I feel like my purpose is to encourage people to embrace their true selves and love themselves. I’m on my journey to doing that and people are seeing me on my journey manifest things to get there. I feel like because I've set such a big goal when it's fulfilled and documented it going to inspire people to be like, oh she was talking about some real shit!

What message are you wanting to put out into the world through your work?

I just want people to be okay with being themselves really. Knowing that you can walk around being yourself and doing exactly what you want to do.

Life can get hectic on top of owning a business. How do you stay grounded?

I’ve actually been working on that this whole year. When I told you my life needed to change this is where most of it needed to take place. I used to try to do all these different things at once, it was very overwhelming. There was actually one point where I had an anxiety attack. So I took a very long break from doing anything. Recently this year I came up with a morning routine for myself. I didn't focus on work. I didn't have a job at the time. I just focused on being spiritually grounded. Introducing myself in the morning to positive energy and setting my intentions for the day has really been helping me so far.

Yoga and meditation have really been an important part of my life. Not only has it positively impacted my body but making space during the day to come to myself has really been helping me stay grounded. I’ve realized since introducing yoga and meditation into my life, I know what it feels like in moments where I'm not grounded. So I know when to come back to myself. Just making time for myself, being slow, and being patient. I feel like a lot of times we see things on social media and we want the money, the cars, the clothes, the nice life, the vacation so we try to rush everything. It’s like... take your time or else you are going to burn out. That doesn't allow you to show up fully to your business, your family, friends, all that shit.

So just being patient, having a routine, and knowing when it's time to do things. Everything has its time. That's the one thing I've struggled with the most and I'm really proud of myself these last two weeks especially because there are so many things I could be doing but I know it's not the time right now. I’m just accepting being patient. Whenever the time comes for it to happen then it will come.

With 2021 coming to an end, what is one lesson you have learned this year?

I’ve learned so many but the biggest lesson I've learned is that, your inner is reflected in your outer. So how you are within yourself is going to reflect how your life is, what kind of friends you have, the kind of things you have, etc. That is one of the most important lessons and I feel like because I've worked on my inner self and been on this journey, I have so many good things coming.

If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be?

That it’s okay. When I was younger I felt a lot of pressure to figure out what I wanted to do in life, to have everything sorted out, to make money, and all this shit. I was just pressuring myself, comparing myself to other people, and really sad about not having my shit together. I would just let myself know that it's okay. Everything happens when it's supposed to happen. Trust the process.

In your own words, what does it mean to live true to self?

It means living out the part of God that he wants you to be. I feel like a lot people think they have to be a certain way or they have to do a certain thing. God put you here the way you are for a reason.
